Rage Against the Machine will reunite for Coachella
Red Hot Chili Peppers and Björk also top the bill for the three-day music festival.

Rage Against the Machine, the seminal L.A. band that made heavy music into political manifesto, will reunite after a seven-year lull for one show as the headliners at the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Sources say Rage, which played the main stage at the first Coachella in 1999, will be joined by other familiar faces for the eighth edition of the festival, which covers three days this year and begins April 27: Red Hot Chili Peppers, which headlined in 2003, are back, as is Björk, who topped the bill in 2002.

Organizers were mum this weekend and it was not clear which day Rage or the other acts were slotted to play; that announcement is expected in the next few days. Other acts expected in the eclectic lineup: Arcade Fire, Interpol, Willie Nelson, the Roots, Manu Chao, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Air, Tiësto and Kings of Leon.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, via Ticketmaster. Three-day passes will cost about $250 and there will be a limited number of single-day passes available.

The headliners are not novel, but they are potent. The Peppers are up for their first best album Grammy right now, and Björk remains a mesmerizing figure to fans of avant pop. But in Southern California rock circles, there is very little that could compete with the excitement of a Rage Against the Machine reunion. The quartet's hybrid of funk, rap, metal and leftist ideology was as subtle as a Molotov cocktail; in the 1990s, its aggro-anthems made it the only band that mattered to a fan base that included East L.A. protest kids as well as those in Hollywood punk circles, college dorms and mainstream rock festival mosh pits, where politics were secondary to the group's feral energy.

The band is vocalist Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk. Their split came amid rumors of bad blood between De la Rocha and his mates, who went on to work with Chris Cornell in Audioslave. However, Morello and De la Rocha appeared together at a 2005 rally for the urban farmers of a South Los Angeles community garden.

Y'a juste Cocteau Twins y'a 2 ans qui se sont juste reformés et n'ont plus tournés après... Mais bon, la demande est trop grande pour RATM, ils vont succomber comme tous les groupes qui se reforment en ce moment... (mais perso, j'aurais jamais pensé que ca soit aussi tôt...)

After yesterdays\'s news that Rage Against the Machine are reforming for this year\'s Coachella, we can now reveal they will be joined by a re-united Crowded House, Happy Mondays and The Jesus And Mary Chain - but that\'s not all!


Both No Doubt and The Police are also rumoured to play their first reunion shows at the festival. A number of hints have been dropped in \'official channels\' relating to the latter, most notably the use of \'Roxanne\' as the password for the Coachella Ticketmaster ticket presale.

As we speculated previously, Björk and Red Hot Chili Peppers are now confirmed to top the lineup for the 2007 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which this year expands from two to three days. Tickets, priced at $249 for a three-day pass, go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ticketmaster. A limited number of one-day tickets, priced at $85 each, will also go on sale at that time.

The April 27-29 festival at the Empire Polo Field in Indio will feature such diverse acts as Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire, Mano Chao, Peaches, Jarvis Cocker, Gogol Bordello and former Tijuana/San Diego singer Julieta Venegas. Other confirmed acts include Air, Sonic Youth, Jose Gonzales, Rufus Wainwright and acid-rock legend Roky Erickson.

At least three of the performers - Willie Nelson, Nickel Creek and Gillian Welch - are also performing at Stagecoach, the two-day country-roots festival that Coachella\'s producers are staging at the same Indio venue May 5 and 6. Their inclusion at Coachella appears intended to promote the following weekend\'s festival.

Tcheu... Si même je ne pouvais voir que 10 à 20 % de ces gens cet été, je serai plus qu'heureuse

...ouf oui...c'est bien traumatisant comme affiche...le problème c'est que c'est impossible de voir tous les groupes

...aussi je suis traumatisé que les Jesus and Mary Chain soient tête d'affiche ...et aussi qu'il y ait Happy Mondays ...ah ces reformations et Rage

Ouais clairement, tu peux pas tout voir, ca doit être le plus frustrant dans l'histoire..

Mais bon, franchement y'a pas vraiment de groupes "dur" à voir, d'ailleurs pleins sont en tournée en europe en ce moment et au moins une 20aine de ces groupes passent en suisse!

Ouais et c'est encore plus traumatisant de voir Jesus and Mary Chain à côté des Arcitc Monkeys...

3 jours au Coachella = 3 mois pour récupérer et t'en remettre

Dans 26 jours commence LE festival que je voudrais faire...
Moi je suis pour que le Paléo fasse 3 jours et nous ammènes ces groupes

Allé RATM on s'en "fou" de Bush (il parait que çe serait le motif de leur reformation...) venez en Suisse... On a Blocher, Perrin, Freisinger etc... on a aussi de quoi faire et c'est aussi les élection en octobre!

Budget je sais pas.. Mais il doit y'avoir 3 fois plus de festivaliers, le pass lui aussi doit être 3 fois plus chers, donc voilà, t'as 3 fois plus de groupes..

Enfin bon, ça doit pas être aussi simple, mais voilà...

Ouais c'est sûr le pass est à 250 $ soit 300.- suisses et pour la capacité (en voyant les photos) j'pense qu c'est 50'000...

Mais mis a part ça le festival est sold out (enfin c'était a prévoir)

Ah sold out, c'est pas étonnant hein (enfin surtout pour Rage..) Et bon c'est américains aussi, ils ont le public pour..

Mais en effet, si Paleo pouvait prendre exemple un peu sur la prog... (et pas seulement les têtes d'affiches hein..)
